Departments: Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical and Clinical
Teaching at Government Medical College, Latur is organised across the classic three groups of medical departments: pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical. Together they cover the full MBBS curriculum and support the postgraduate programmes run by the college.
Pre-Clinical Departments
The pre-clinical departments — Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry — carry the first year of the MBBS course. Students learn the structure and function of the human body through dissection hall sessions, histology laboratories and practical classes before they ever enter the wards.
Para-Clinical Departments
Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, and Community Medicine (PSM) form the para-clinical block of the second year. These departments connect basic science with bedside medicine and run the college's diagnostic laboratories.
Clinical Departments
The clinical departments are based in the 510-bed teaching hospital and cover the major specialities. The ENT department, for example, has existed since the civil hospital came under the college authority in November 2003, and its first batch passed in February 2006.
